LAVA STONE - SURFACES - NATURAL & COLOURFIELD
Surfaces presents lava stone with a contemporary approach. Inspired by the materiality and formation of this volcanic stone, blocks are extracted from the quarry and cut into slabs. The next phase of production is the result of strong experimentation and appreciation for this raw material. Naturally light grey on extraction, the stone is subjected to the high temperatures of a custom furnace, the varying temperatures and baking times achieving a spectrum of grey to black tones.
Colourfield continues the exploration of surfaces, employing the crushed and ground glass from discarded TV and computer monitors, the glass powder mixed with pigment is applied to the surface of the stone in a glaze like treatment. The result of baking the stone fuses the two materials into a unified, striking and hard wearing coloured material.
Available in 5 x natural colours and 11 x colourfield colours.
Please note that this product is available in a vast number of sizes in both 10mm and 20mm thicknesses. This material is also available as cut to size for specific architectural projects.
