Matteo Brioni is a company that displays layers of history and understanding of raw clay materials to deliver realisations that are both contemporary and sympathetic to the environment.
These natural clay plasters showcase the passion of Architect Matteo Brioni. Born and raised in a brick yard in Gonzaga Italy, Matteo has been surrounded by clay his entire life and his family producing bricks for over a century. Matteo’s understanding of clay forms part of his DNA and the interpretations that he has developed have been shaped by his architectural training with the results being thoughtful clay based plaster, suitable for a multitude of applications and focusing on the beauty of an authentic and organic aesthetic.
These carefully curated clay plasters have been developed for use across a variety of architectural applications, floors, walls residential, or commercial use. For most applications three distinct decorative surface textures are provided within the product type affording a breadth of options across a range of 14 carefully selected colours that each display a delightful variation of tonality (rather than a monochromatic base). Bespoke colours can also be formulated for volume orders. All product is blended using 100% organic natural pigments extracted from selected geographic locations. For example the colour Pepe Nero employs lava ash to provide the clay plaster with a deep charcoal, black like colour.
A fundamental consideration by Matteo when developing the range was that no artificial colourants, chemical binders, additives or other ingredients are used in the production of these products. And other than some specific technical finishes designed for use in commercial areas Matteo’s desire has been achieved, resulting in a very considered and environmentally responsible proposal.
The artisanal quality of Matteo Brioni allows the company to be agile, offering projects the opportunity to explore custom colours beyond their standard range in search of unique outcomes that are influenced by the installations geographic surroundings or purpose.
Material Space presents the Matteo Brioni range to the New Zealand market for the first time, honoured and excited to represent a company held in such high regard by some of the world’s leading architects and one that is committed to producing thoughtfully considered materials with a depth and a respect for the environment and the aesthetic.
